The proceedings of the 7th World Congress on Environmental Education (WEEC, Marrakech, 9-14 June 2013) are published and available in pdf on www.environmental-education.org web-site.
The work articulated between plenary sessions and thematic groups has shown the progresses in environmental education. The proceedings have almost 3300 pages spread over 11 thematic groups. Interventions of representatives from major international institutions are also presented: PNUE, l’UNESCO, l’ISESCO and speeches by Vandana Shiva who participated to the final session of the conference.
The Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection was established in 2001 and it is headed by a board of directors, and presided by HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa. Council membership includes public and private operators. The Foundation has a functional organization with an associate chair, appointed by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in June 2001.
If preserving the environment is now accepted as an engine of growth for all countries in the world, it is especially important to Morocco, a veritable source of natural resources, which enhances the attractiveness of the tourism sector, a pillar of the national economy.
HM King Mohammed VI sent a message to the participants of the 7th World Environmental Education Congress (WEEC), which kicked off Sunday in Marrakech under the chairmanship of Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasna, President of the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of the Environment.
Here follows the full text of the royal message which was read out by HRH Princess Lalla Hasna:
At the end of the closing ceremony of the 7th WEEC (World Environmental Education Congress), held from 9 to 14 June in Marrakech (Morocco), an Appeal was launched to emphasise the role of environmental education and the need to activate more and more political and economic tools in this sector.
The appeal was drawn up by a selection of the more than 1,800 delegates who attended this year's lavish WEEC (ten years old this year), which was organized by the Permanent Secretariat of the WEEC Network (chaired by Mario Salomone) in collaboration with the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Environment, the local organizing Committee.
A comprehensive document assessing the congress and the recommendations will soon be available.

To celebrate the Seventh World Environmental Education Congress (7th WEEC) the Moroccan Postal System has issued a commemorative stamp.
For the first time in the history of Moroccan mail, the stamp will be accompanied by an envelope printed on recycled paper, dedicated to the first date of issue.
Your Royal Highness,
Today we have the great pleasure to open the 7th WEEC in Your presence and under the High Patronage of His Majesty the King of Morocco Mohammed VI.
Your Royal Highness, autorities and delegates of international, national and local institutions, dear participants coming from Morocco and from all over the World
Firts of all, I would like to thank sincerely the King of Morocco, the Mohammed VI Foundation for the protection of the environment and its President Her Royal Highness the Princess Lalla Hasnaa, the Foundation's team and all those that have contributed, here in Morocco, to the congress' organisation and to the success of this important international meeting : the people, the institutions, the Morocco's scientific community and the city of Marrakech for their generous commitment.
I would also like to thank, in particularly, UNESCO, UNEP and ISESCO, whose highest delegates are taking part in this congress.
The 7th World Environmental Education Congress (WEEC 2013), which occurred in Marrakech from the 9th to the 14th of June 2013, has filled up with participants, meetings, ideas and even emotions sharing.
2400 participants, come from all over the World (more than 105 nationalities were there!), have shared and enjoyed together the 7th World Environmental Education Congress (WEEC 2013), for 5 days, from the 9th to the 14th of June, in the Marrakech Congresses Palace (Palais des Congrès). This record participation highlights the growing interest for the Environment and make this unique event a reference forum in the Environmental Education field.
Co-organised by the Foundation Mohammed VI for the protection of the environment an the Permanent Secretariat Of the WEEC Network, it was supported by international institutions, such as UNESCO, UNEP, ISESCO, the Foundation for the Environmental Education (FEE), whose highest delegates have come to participate in the Congress’ works.
Structured in plenary sessions and thematic niches, the Congress’ works have analysed all the different aspects of the Environmental Education, showing how this is the key to abandon a development model which is at the end of its rope!
